Watkins Hire installed a mobile oil fired LPHW heating boiler to dry a newly laid concrete floor at the new build industrial building in Wolverhampton.
The Problem
Due to delays in fixed heating boiler plant being delivered, installed and commissioned, the main contractor wanted to keep the project on target for the completion date. They had just installed a new floor that required drying, Watkins Hire were contacted by the main contractor to provide a controlled solution.
The Solution
They looked at many solutions, but none offered the degree of control required to dry the new floor out correctly and maintain the supplier guarantee’s, Watkins Hire are currently supplying temporary hotwater boiler rental equipment to several projects from large manufacturing plants, schools, office’s and many retail and industrial buildings all under construction where the under-floor Heating systems are being used with our hotwater hire boilers for controlled floor drying, Watkins were able to demonstrate how the process needed to be well controlled with temperature steps made ensuring that the drying process is not forced, as drying out a newly laid floor too quickly could result in damage to the floor.

The boiler selected for this project was the new HeatGEN heating boiler hire model MBR100 as it had the following features that provided speed of installation and allowed the construction company to move the hire boiler from one building to another building on the industrial site and connection to existing systems is made simple by using quick fit flexible hoses, it also provided without modification time clock control and building protection during frosts and colder weather.
The heating boiler hire unit came with a time clock to enable accurate timings for each temperature raise required to dry the floor without damage. Another feature was the frost stat which provided the same building protection as a fixed installation.
Equipment supplied by Watkins Hire included a HeatGEN MBR 100kW mobile oil fired heating boiler and quick fit flexible heating pipework, a FuelPAK 1000-litre bunded fuel tank, the fuel tank was UN & ADR compliant which allowed it to be legally delivered to site full of fuel, which allowed same day delivery with our own hiab and commissioning.
Watkins hire provided piece of mind and support to the construction site manager ensuring fuel supplies were constantly monitored and maintained, by providing a web based fuel monitoring telemetry system which monitored remotely fuel consumption and automatically re-ordered when refuelling was required, this fuel management feature is unique to Watkins Boiler Hire and is offered completely free of charge.
The Construction site manager said
“We have worked with other companies in the past for floor drying with varying results; we were very surprised by the standard of the equipment supplied and the level of service supplied by Watkins Boiler Hire. We are very pleased with the drying project and our procurement Director has awarded Watkins Hire preferred supplier status after my personal recommendation; they handled the whole project and even looked after the fuel supplies with a clever web based fuel monitoring system, their driver was ADR trained which allowed the fuel tank to come full which enabled same day installation and commissioning, we have decided to keep the boiler to utilise the under-floor heating system to dryout and warm up the fabric of the building, by using the domestic hotwater circuits from the mobile boiler we have pre-commissioned the buildings welfare facilities. We were also surprised by the range of site heaters that Watkins could offer, and have just hired a new 170kw site heater that has an integral ADR bunded fuel tank which seems to be setting new standards in environmental protection for construction site heating.”
