When a facilities management company contacted Watkins Hire to provide and maintain an adequate domestic hot water supply to 142 residential flats, our Watkins Hire Representative made the necessary arrangements to be on site that day.
On attending the site and completing a full and comprehensive site survey, our solution was to supply a 293kW domestic hot water oil fired storage heater package.
A temporary domestic hot water system was required as a short-term fix to ensure residents had access to hot water at all times during a boiler and domestic hot water cylinder removal works due to asbestos strip out and boiler/cylinder replacement.
Asbestos was used as a building material from the 1950's to the 1980's, as it was excellent for insulation and fire proofing. However research has now proved that when these fibres are inhaled they can cause serious health issues. The on-site boiler house had traces of asbestos and therefore had to be decommissioned.
The domestic hot water requirement for multi-flats which consisted of both single and double dwellings required a similar capacity of stored hot water to the existing cylinders. This ensured an adequate supply of domestic hot water for continuous circulation and to meet peak morning and evening demands. The Watkins hire solution met this requirement with ease.
