Case Study: Cooling a Supermarket Distribution Centre
A call was taken requesting an urgent site visit to a supermarket distribution centre that was experiencing rising temperatures in their very large cold store warehouse as the existing low temperature system had failed.
A Watkins Hire representative was on site within 3 hours who found that, although the required warehouse temperature was 3°C and the building was well insulated, due to the high ambient temperature outside the inside temperature was rising to 10°C. Should the temperature reach 11°C the plant would have to be shut down and all product within destroyed.
Watkins Hire installed a chiller, a low temp AHU, a generator and fuel tank with remote telemetry to rectify the issue. This equipment resolved the dangerously high temperature issues and allowed the company to continue to supply their 190 stores without interruption.
The client has requested a TCEPs visit to all their distribution centres to ensure business continuity should catastrophic failure happen elsewhere.
