In April 2011 Watkins Hire Events were contacted to supply all the broadcast cooling for the royal wedding. This involved the cooling of a three story media strcture and backstage/broadcast suites. For 2 weeks all the systems ran 24/7 with a standby engineer to cover the broadcasters sending to their home countries in other time zones.
120 portable units were used to cool the three level broadcast studios which overlooked the palace and the royal procession route. The backstage structures were cooled by 120kW Heat Pump Units and a variety of Air Handlers and Overhead Ducting. Unusually there was no water supply available to fill the equipment so Watkins Hire Events supplied all water to fill and maintain the equipment.
Throughout the big day there were two standby engineers on-site to provide support to the broadcast studios and witness this historic event.
