Temperature Control Hire specialist, Watkins Hire, has secured the centrepiece to its business expansion plans with a £1.4million investment in a new headquarters in Lydney, Gloucestershire.
The new site is one of a number of recently acquired properties secured to underpin Watkins Hire’s growth strategy, with new depots opening recently in Falkirk and Skelmersdale, increasing the company’s national coverage.
Located just a few miles from the company’s long-standing base in Sling, Forest of Dean, the new facility includes a 64,000 ft² workshop area for servicing and maintaining the hire fleet, a five-acre storage yard and custom-built office accommodation.
Explains Roderick Williams, sales director at Watkins Hire: “The company’s success and rapid growth over the past ten years has meant that we have been looking for new premises for our HQ for some time and we are delighted to have found the new building in Lydney. The existing workshop and yard areas at the site made it ideal for our purposes and offer us the space we know we’ll need for further growth over the next few years. With the addition of some extra office space, the building now provides the perfect headquarters for Watkins – and it’s so close to our old site that some of our staff even have a shorter journey to work!”
Mark Hills Managing Director commented, “The move to Lydney has created much needed employment for the area, we have created six new positions ranging from specialist engineers to workshop managers, as we introduce our chiller rental systems to the Lydney depot this will create further employment for Lydney and the surrounding area.”
The workshop at the new Watkins Hire HQ has significantly increased servicing capacity for the firm and purpose built maintenance bays will ensure a fast turnaround on rental equipment that is returned to the base for maintenance. The external storage area will also allow the company to increase its hire fleet, a key element in its continuing expansion plans.
“We are committed to providing our customers with a wide choice of the very latest temperature and climate control hire equipment,” Roderick continues, “and the increased capacity at the new depot will help us deliver this commitment whilst improving fleet availability.”
